'buren' is a collective founded by Oshin Albrecht and Melissa Mabesoone in 2012.
buren focuses on the de- and reconstruction of image and language. They approach the scene as a critical playground, a surface on which they continuously re-play. They install a sense of familiarity and distort it progressively. Their work has a strong visual character with specific attention to the musicality of text and to the way in which sound and music function as a means of communication.

Buren is setting up auditions in search of a perfomer for shoe/farm - a family business. If selected you will join Melissa Mabesoone, Oshin Albrecht and Katja Dreyer on stage.
shoe/farm - a family business draws further on shoe/farm - prelude that functioned as a first exploration of the world of the farm and the shoe. It departed from the places Melissa and Oshin grew up: a shoeshop along the Belgian Coast and a farm in Zeeuws Vlaanderen.
In shoe/farm - a family business 'shoe' and 'farm' merge into a fictituous place, a genuine 'shoefarm', where shoes are grown, harvested, branded and sold via the World Wide Web. We will explore different power dynamics in a setting where work and family relations coincide. With instruments and props embedded in the scenography we will engage in group and serial labour, explore songs, sounds and rhythms stemming from our work-related gestures.
profiel kandidaat
You are a physical performer/dancer or musician who is comfortable with performing in English. You are willing to step into the 'buren-world' which has a specific aesthetic and performative style. You want to engage in the creation of performative material for the performance based on scenes and ideas set out by buren (Melissa Mabesoone and Oshin Albrecht). You are comfortable in using your voice in different ways: singing, exploration of pitch, producing music. If you are not a musician, having a broad interest in music, playing an instrument, working with sound and rhythm is a plus. You are available for the rehearsals, which will take place between 24/3 and 21/6/2025

We will let you know whether you are selected for the audition on 30/8. If you are selected, we will also send you a short assignment to prepare.
During the auditions we will have a short talk based on your application, watch the assignment and do a group improvisation with all the participants.
If selected at audition, a contract 'bepaalde duur volgens CAO Podiumkunsten' is offered.
